The Wanderer's Guide to Split
Split is a difficult city to explain. It often appears, both to those who live inside and outside of it, that the city exists in its own bubble, forever drifting sideways or against the current. Whatever one's opinion of the city, it is rarely an indifferent or objective one. This city is unique in its beginning and singular in its development. It unabashedly carries its original sin of being created by a man who believed himself to be a god for all to see. Its people tend to follow their own brand of illogic to reasonable ends, often to the great frustration of outsiders, similar to how ruins upon ruins of bygone times combine to make a coherent whole.
Because of this, the book is titled "a guide for wanderers", for it gives one no rules and direct paths to take, although its chapters and themes lean on each other like the great stones of Diocletian's archways. It is my hope that some greater whole might arise out of this giant mosaic, bringing pleasure and the warmth of discovery to all with wondering minds and spirits.
